Well I'm here....

At airport they inspected my elephant boots to make sure they were clean (they were)and a lovely little spaniel sniffed my day sack for food- part of the biosecurity police force Kirsten would never get out of the airport (patting the doggies). Got car, a Very underpowered Nissan, but at least its a hatchback so I can get a bike in the back. Am hiring one for the week to use to check out Hamilton etc. Had to pay for car on visa card and paid extra $10 a day to reduce liability from $1000 to $0, still a good deal though - thanks.

Weather mild but now clouded over and raining. Phoned Van Hoffens left them a message, my nz number is +64 211 792305.

Booked into YHA, single room about £25 so I'm still being frugal, could have got a dorm for £5 but didn't fancy it in a city. Off on ferry to Devonport in the rain, will probably get some food there. .... 45 mins later I'm on ferry back! Very colonial, trees and old buildings, sky is black so didn't want to stay over there in the rain. Lots of islands, sailing boats and ferries, but not very warm, but I've only got shorts and purple top on.

Snapped some city pics driving around, phone in the plastic holder, looks a bit grey. Auckland is a bit like London in the 70s, but with a harbour.

Getting hungry now so will probably find somewhere to eat and then get an early night.

Plan tomorrow is to head down to Hamilton, probably find somewhere cheaper still down there! Will also try and contact some agencys in Auckland to see if I can arrange other interviews.

Thats about it for now.

Richard

  1. Hi Richard,
One of these days we may talk face to face!! Chris gave me the details of the blog address.
Good to know you've arrived OK. Looks like a real mix of architecture and the weather dosn't look too brilliant either - hope things cheer up (weather, as building unlikely to change much!). Let us know how you are getting on.
